Leftovers: Save money and stay healthy

Over at Sisterly Savings, Jennifer has Ten Money Saving Tips on Eating Out. Here’s another:

Take your leftovers home. Restaurant portions always seem to be much too large, so don’t over stuff yourself and ask for the leftovers to be wrapped up. You stay healthy and have a meal for lunch the next day. Just make sure not to leave the doggie bag on the restaurant table.

We recommend reusable plastic containers for storing or freezing all your leftovers:

Ziploc has a great site full of tips on ways to use these storage containers outside the kitchen as well.

Do you eat leftovers or do they just sit in your fridge? Do you use leftovers for new dishes or are you just happy not to have to cook again?

I always cook extra at dinner time. Hubby loves leftovers! And now that he is back working for awhile (we’re retired, he’s decided to work for a bit), he takes them for lunch. No one has to make his lunch this way! And we do use these reusable containers, too. They’re awesome.

Sweet I need some more of these for what become the science experiments. These things are great to help me forget about food I meant to eat and then open them once a month when I clean out the fridge and discover new life forms. Saweeet!

@ Cindy – That’s smart – I always try to cook extra too so I have lunch to bring to work so I don’t have to eat out. Thanks for sharing!

@ Courtney – I think mac and cheese is the best thing ever leftover. Yum!

@ Jennifer – Absolutely, thanks for stopping by.

@ Will – Ick! I’d write the dates on your containers do you know when you put them in the fridge.
