What other ways do you use toilet paper?

August 20th, 2009 | By Rebecca Thorman | 8 Comments

Kristen Chase caught up with Devra Renner and Aviva Pflock from Parentopia and authors of Mommy Guilt at BlogHer ‘09 where they shared an alternative way to utilize toilet paper: as socks. Although they admit, toilet paper might be best for it’s intended use, not as a fashion accessory.

Devra and Aviva also told us the products they can’t live without: the Swiffer, Mr. Clean Magic Eraser and Febreze, and shared what products they felt most resembled who they are.

But we want to know, what other ways do you use toilet paper?

    Besides emergency Kleenex, you mean?
Ok. Well, I can tell you that it does NOT work as a very good substitute for maxipads when you are caught by surprise while hiking across Cornwall in the UK.
But, my dogs think it is a toy, and my daughter found when she was a very small child that, mixed with water, toothpaste and food coloring, it makes an interesting modeling compound. (Sticks to the bathroom mirror, too. An added bonus for any 4 year old.)

Mostly, we use it as intended around here, meaning, emergency Kleenex, since my husband can’t be bothered to open the cupboard and see that we have plenty on hand now, thanks to Alice.

  2. @ Ann-Marie – Ha, thanks for sharing your funny stories! Too cute. I also am a big proponent of toilet paper as tissues, and when I lived with dogs, they found TP was a great toy.

Toilet paper has made a great “police line” sort of barrier when the toilet itself is out of commission.
It also makes a great last minute Mummy costume. And most recently it has made a wonderful pretend cast for my children while they were playing house.

Then there’s the old-fashioned TPing a friend’s (or enemy) house. My favorite was what must have been 100 year old and very tall trees that were covered with TP. I can’t imagine how “they” got it up so high. I know throwing the roll works, but this was REALLY high. They must have brought in a crane.

By the way, I don’t recommend this. It’s simply a historical reference.

  5. @ Sue – Oh, that’s great! Love the cast/mummy ideas, but especially thought the police line use was cute :) Thanks for sharing!

    @ Linda – Haha, yes, nor does Alice endorse TP’ing a friend’s house. ;)

I have used tp as spackle before on a white wall, just mix with watch and smush into the hole! Doesn’t really fix the problem, just looks better than a hole! It’s a great remover of any ‘raccoon eye’ leftovers in the morning when you are in a hurry to get out the door. Also, I remember as a young girl it was excellent to fill out my bra cups.

I use toilet paper to clean the toilet. :) Rather than a sponge or a washcloth, which gets nasty after the first wipe, I use toilet paper with my cleanser and then flush away the paper.
