Spotlight: Creative Uses for Dryer Sheets

by Rebecca on March 14   ///   10 Comments

I saw recently on CBS’ Sunday Morning a woman who took dryer lint of all colors and varieties to create grand pieces of art. While not my taste, it was certainly creative! Today, I want to talk about how else you can use laundry products creatively – specifically, dryer sheets!

I use my dryer sheets multiple times and find they work just fine the second time through the dryer. I also like to take them and dust the floors, especially bathroom floors. I’ll also place them in strategic locations to keep things smelling fresh! If you need inspiration, our friend over at Hoosier Homemade has some good ideas, including using dryer sheets as mosquito repellent, for hair static, and under car seats.

Do you have creative uses for your dryer sheets? Do tell.

I have put them inside the kerchief that I tie around my dog’s neck — they smell so good and fresh ;-)

@ Kathy – I have heard that, but haven’t tried it! Summer is just around the corner though… :)

@ Jody – LOVE that idea! Fresh laundry is one of my favorite smells too.

@ Denise – Aw, that’s so cute. I used to have dogs growing up and feel like this would have been a good solution for them between baths :)

  • Marianne

They are toxic…do not use them.

  • Jamie

We put them in out boat during winter storage to keep the mice out!

Work EXCELLENT for dishes with leftover stuck on things, like pans and such, just let put a little water in the pan, throw in a dryer sheet and let it sit for a while (depending on how bad it is, of course) and then remove and wash as usual – the stuck on yuck comes right off!

  • Kathie

I’m with you Marianne, they are toxic so the only good thing to use them for would be repelling mosquitos.

  • Connie

I can’t use dryer sheets in my new dryer. They gum up the lint trap. However, I do use them as sachets in drawers and closets and my car.

@ Marianne @Kathie – Thanks for weighing in! On Alice, each product also has it’s Good Guide rating so you can look at the health and environmental ratings.

@ Jamie – Smart! Mice are no fun, eck!

@ Dee – I haven’t tried that, but have heard of it before… usually I just let things soak for a long time… I will have to speed up the process with dryer sheets!

@ Connie – Yeah, I like using them as sachets as well. Thanks for the comment :)
